The ATS 2500 GTS | Chassis #2005

Born from the internal rupture at Ferrari in 1961, when Carlo Chiti, Giotto Bizzarrini, Romolo Tavoni and other key figures walked out following the infamous “Palace Revolt,” the ATS 2500 GTS represents one of the most consequential splinter movements in Italian automotive history. Conceived by the very engineers responsible for the Ferrari 156 Sharknose and 250 GTO, ATS set out to build a mid-engined road car to rival its former employer. Just six ATS road cars were completed. Of those, only three were GTS models. The example offered here is one of only two constructed in full aluminum and is widely regarded as the most original surviving ATS, restored to the highest standard yet achieved on any example.

Chassis 2005 has not been publicly offered for nearly 50 years. As documented in Magneto and supported by extensive archival material, this car was used by Carlo Chiti as a development machine before being delivered to General Motors design chief Bill Mitchell, where it influenced styling at the highest levels of the industry. Its provenance, historical relevance, and rarity place it in a category beyond conventional collecting. This ATS 2500 GTS will not be broadly marketed. It is being presented quietly and exclusively to a select group of qualified collectors who understand the significance of acquiring one of the rarest and most pivotal Italian sports cars of the 1960s.
